At the moment we have been given the breif to design a two page magazine advert for anything of our choice. I have chosen to advertise the Brogue because I have a few pairs myself and knew I would be prepared if we needed to photograph them for the actual advert. First I designed some rough mock-ups just drawing them with a pencil. Then I digitalised them using Photoshop.

Composition
The aim of this task was to go out in Leeds, sketching random compositions using a view finder. These aren't meant to be in detail, they are just meant to capture basic shapes and frame them well to make our photography compositions better. We then used the basic compositions that we drew from buildings etc as inspiration for cut out compositions. We used black, white and grey paper and cut out different shapes and played around with compositions until we got a final design that we liked. The last image is my final composition and I really like it. The balance of the shapes works really well and I like the pop of red.

Urban CD Cover
This was a CD Cover I created on the theme of Urban. I took photographs in urban locations such as the high rise buildings in Leeds, areas which had graffiti, etc. I used photoshop to layer the images together and create this grungy effect. I really like the two tone effect of this CD Cover.

Self Portrait Progression
This is the first self portrait I ever did using pencil, paint and ink. This image is very cartoon like and unrealistic. I have drawn what I thought I saw rather than what I actually saw - and have drawn the features very stereotypically and not truely representational.
The second self portrait I did was created using pencil. I have again drawn the features quite stereotypically and not spent much time adding detail to the areas which needed it such as the face.
I think that my third self protrait is a big improvement on my first two. Although there isn't much detail in the image, I spent a lot of time on the eyes making them look as realistic as possible and not cartoony. Here is a close up of the eyes ^
This is my fourth self portrait and I think it is my best to date. Although I prefer the eyes from my third attempt I think this is generally better because it looks most like me and I spent a lot of time on it adding detail.
Abstract Faces
Mark making
This piece was created simply to explore different ways of making marks. In this piece I used inks, straws, string, toothbrushes, sponges and various other materials and techniques. I quite like this piece - I especially like the ink which had been blown with straws and the flicks of paint from a toothbrush. I also love the colours used.

Using media to convey meanings
Here I used lots of different types of medias and materials to convey meanings of certain words. I looked through magazines and chose colours which I associated with those words. I think that these images are successful in portraying the image of what each word means.
Identity
I created this image by standing in a tub of paint and printing my footprints onto some fabric. Once this had dried I scanned the image into my computer and using photoshop placed two pictures of myself into the image. This piece shows that no matter how much your appearence may change over time, you can never really change your identity and you can't run away from who you are.
Sewing into paper
To create this piece I took lots of different layers of paper and used a sewing machine to sew them all together. The different layers of paper were made of a variety of things - photocopies of other work I have done, news papers, magazines, paper which I had painted on in different colours, etc. Once I had sewn them all together using lots of different stitches and directions of sewing, I used a scalpel to peel back some of the layers of paper to reveal others to create an abstract piece of imagery.
Fusion Logos
These logos are designs for an upcoming cafe which is also an art gallery called Fusion. The style of the cafe will be modern, with an artistic twist as customers can admire the art on the walls as they drink or dine. Then, if they wish, purchase pieces they have admired in the gallery/shop situated at the back of the cafe. Here is a selection of a few of the logos I was designing using black fineliners and different coloured inks. I tried to make them look modern and artistic.
Collagraph
I created this collagraph by gluing lots of different materials onto a stiff piece of cardboard. The different materials are supposed to create different lines, textures and effects. The image is based around found objects. When I was finished with how my collagraph looked, I inked it up and put it through a rolling ink press and printed the image onto paper. I really like the abstract look to this print and how you can't really tell what anything is yet there is lots of different interesting marks, lines and textures that constantly draw your eye over the whole piece.
